Displays and Exhibits:
Animals and Nature
No Country Fair would be complete without a tribute to the
wildlife and country pursuits that make East Anglia what it is. Find out more
about how we interact with the wildlife, farm animals and working pets that
surround us here in rural Suffolk. Also, don't forget that there are plenty of
events in the main ring featuring animals and birds.
As well as the animals themselves, we've always been sure to
invite some of the various charities and organisations that promote animal
welfare and wellbeing.

PAKEFIELD FERRETS |
|
Stories about ferrets being mysterious, weasly characters are nothing but myths. They are not mysterious, just misunderstood. Decades of secrecy forced upon the majority of ferreters because of ignorance have given the general public this image of the ferret; a smelly, dirty creature that will bite rather than look at you!
The image and attitude of the past has met its match. Today the ferret is an animal to be proud of. Come to the fair and meet some face to face, and learn why they are so fascinating and important to rural life.

SHEEP SHOW |
|
The Sheep Show is a fun and educational look at different breeds of sheep with the emphasis on wool. The show is now more popular than ever - appearing at over 40 venues during the year in front of an estimated audience of 1.6 million! The shows are presented by New Zealanders Richard Savory and Stuart Barnes and are fun for all ages. As each of the nine breeds of sheep is introduced, you will learn about its attributes and how wool from the sheep's back becomes a jumper to wear. Meet Nobby the Norfolk Horn, Susie the Southdown and their woolly friends. Don’t miss the famous ‘Sheep Show Shuffle’ and the fascinating live shearing demonstration.
Each show lasts around 30 minutes and several shows are performed during the day from the Sheep Show's own self-contained 40ft stage trailer, complete with sound and lighting - all that is required is an enthusiastic audience!

Norfolk & Suffolk H.P.R. Field Trial Club |
|
Do you own any of the Continental Gundog breeds? Would you like to work your dog or shoot over it or compete in Gundog Working Tests or Field Trials? If so you might consider joining our club. For a small annual membership and monthly training fee, we can offer you training classes in North Suffolk. The Norfolk & Suffolk HPR Field Trial club promotes the training of all Hunt, Point, and Retrieve breeds as gundogs. We train from 12 weeks onwards, teaching the handler to understand and learn the ability to read their dog so they may have a pleasant working relationship. We also offer Working Tests, Spring Pointing Tests, Field Trial Training days and Field Trials for all HPR breeds. Today’s demonstration will give you a small indication of what these remarkable dogs are capable of. Come along to our stand down by the river and talk to us, or have a go at the scurry for a chance to win a bag of dog food. We look forward to seeing you

Family Dog Show |
|
The Suffolk Jay Gee Dog Sanctuary is one of seven sanctuaries run by the Jerry Green Foundation Trust, a charity which exists to care for homeless dogs and to find new homes for them. Although there are always some strays, most dogs arrive at the sanctuary directly from their former owners for a variety of personal reasons. People who offer a home to our dogs adopt the dogs from us. We need to know if there is a problem, and if necessary will take the dog back. Before any dog leaves the sanctuary we insist on a home check, with a follow-up welfare check a few months after the dog has been re-homed. You will find the sanctuary on the B1123, seven miles from both Harleston and Halesworth, between Metfield and Linstead Parva. We are open seven days a week from 1.30 p.m. to 4 p.m. This year’s open Day and Families Dog Show will be held next Saturday July 12th. Entries from 11 a.m. Judging starts promptly at midday. Judge: Debbie Adams, Jerry Green Foundation Trust.

Donkey Rides |
|
Rainbow Donkeys is run by Sue Field who is delighted to offer donkey rides for children. The donkeys are led at all times and the safety of children and welfare of the animals is paramount.
If you would like a ride on the donkey you will find them at the front of the house area on the opposite side of the main arena from the craft marquees.
They are fully licensed under the Riding Establishment Act and the donkeys have been inspected by a veterinary surgeon and a member of the Council.
