The Main Ring

For many, the events that we host in the main ring are the highlight of the day. We've booked some fantastic entertainment for 2008. Here are a few of them...

Cossack Trick Riders

As The Company of Horsemen gallop into the arena, you will easily believe that these riders are the true descendants of the legendary Mongol Hordes of the Genghis Khan - the most effective cavalry the world has known and whose skills passed down the generations to the Cossacks of the Steppes. The techniques originally used in battle have been transformed into the most amazing acrobatics on horseback and are performed at speed to leave spectators gasping in amazement!! Non-stop action in colourful costumes, exciting background music and professional commentary complete this amazing performance.

Wild Times Western Show

Taking inspiration from accounts of the Buffalo Bill Congress of Rough Riders during the 1980s, we present a rip-roaring time with one of the movie industry's most popular heroes. Riding straight from the prairie onto the silver screen, the Cowboy was a legend in his own lifetime - a time when the horse was king and the times were indeed WILD! Join us in celebrating those times with action trick riding of the type still seen in the best Western Rodeos, educated horses and hilarious comedy with the horse who goes to sleep in the center of the arena! Colourful costumes and flags, background music and lively commentary complete this moving picture.

Eagle & Vulture Show

We proudly present the Eagle & Vulture show by one of the country’s leading Falconry display teams. It is your chance to see breathtaking birds from around the world that have made film and TV appearances such as the "Really Wild Show", "Emmerdale" and "Yorkshire Glory" to name but a few. The show consists of a dramatic free-flying display comprising of Hawks, Falcons, Owls and the magnificent splendour of a soaring Eagle, all flown to perfection with an informative and strong emphasis on audience participation.
The team are proud to present Sydney the Bald Eagle, Bertha the Tawny Eagle, Popeye the Eagle Owl and Jack the ugliest bird in town.
A static exhibition gives one the chance to chat to a Falconer and to discuss the true joys of Falconry.

Champions of the Hill - Sheepdog Display

International shepherd Tom Longton gives a unique flavour of the countryside with his sheep and ducks.
Tom has gained numerous titles and victory on TVs "One Man and His Dog". His unique displays demonstrate his training methods with the intelligent Border Collies.
There is a special bond between a man and his dog, which Tom emphasises throughout his display.
The unpredictability of the ducks as the dogs try to control them through the obstacles is particularly enjoyable.

Rockwood Dog Display Team

The Rockwood Dog Display Team deliver a fun-packed exhibition full of daring stunts and clever routines, designed to entertain audiences from all walks of life and of all ages. Since the formation of the team in 1985, they have thrilled the public with their varied and entertaining display and are now recognized as Britiain's leading dog demonstration team.
The display takes you through all aspects of training with obedience beautifully performed to music, and spectacularly agile tricks such as the high bars, fire retrieving and hoop jumping. A great visual effect is created when all the dogs in the team demonstrate their skill and courage by negotiating the 80ft by 8ft fire ramp. You will also see the dogs apprehend an armed cirnimal and save a child from abduction. Everything culminates in an exciting agility relay race.

Classic tractors Parade in the main ring!

Don't miss the classic tractors in the main ring! As well as a static display for most of the day, you can enjoy a genteel parade of the tractors around the arena, complete with a commentary about the tractors and their restoration.

It may not be as fast-paced as the falconry show, or as dangerous and spectacular as the Wild West Show and Cossack riders, but for a memorable afternoon, we highly recommend this.

Helicopter view

Why not have a bird’s eye view of the events in the main ring with a helicopter ride.
Stirling Helicopters are flying out of the Orangery at the back of the house.

To get there either walk through the courtyard or up via the stable area.
