Music, Drama and Dance

There's no shortage of entertainment at the Fair - there's music, acting and dance at various locations throughout the day. Of course, there are some quiet areas as well for you to enjoy the glorious surroundings.

TUXEDO JAZZ QUARTET

Fashions in popular music come and go, but freewheeling Dixieland jazz is always around somewhere.

The guys in this band have been enjoying it and playing it since they were striplings. People still come to hear them, so they must be doing something right!

Tim Densham and Derek Cubitt on clarinets and saxophones play around with tunes, and Alan Cugnoni and Tony Jullings on banjo, guitar and double bass provide the rhythm.

IPSWICH HOSPITAL BAND

Ipswich Hospital Band has been performing for over 30 years throughout Suffolk at concerts and fund-raising events in aid of health-related charities for which it has raised thousands of pounds.

At present its membership stands at nearly 100 with over 50 in the Main Band and a training section comprising Intermediate and Foundation bands. It runs a selection of smaller ensembles including a jazz band and wind and brass groups.

These are exciting times for the Band with 2008 seeing the completion of work on the St Peter’s Project after years of planning. A Heritage Lottery Grant of £772 000 and further grants of £100 000 from Ipswich Borough Council and £10 000 from the Ipswich Historic Churches Trust have enabled the Band to convert the redundant Mariners’ church, St Peter’s by the Waterfront in Ipswich, into a 205 seat Centre for Music and the Arts. The Band is delighted with its new home. It is available for hire to other music groups and societies.

To book the band or any of its ensembles, or for further information regarding St Peter’s by the Waterfront, please contact the Chairman;
