The Country Fair Trust

The Heveningham Hall Country Fair started in 1996 when it was just a small fundraiser for Heveningham and Huntingfield church funds and was run along the lines of a village fete. In the following years, due to its initial success, it has grown into a day full of events and activities attracting many thousand visitors. In 2002 we achieved charitable status and the villages that border the estate and are the main beneficiaries of the Trust.

In the year of the Foot and Mouth epidemic we were unable to host the Fair but in order to be able to continue the charitable work it was decided to hold a Firework display. Due to the success of the event as with the Country Fair it was decided to make this also annual event and all proceeds to go to the trust and be distributed in the same manner.

Following yet another very successful year, proceeds from the Country Fair in July and the Fireworks display in November 2007, have enabled the Trustees to fulfill requests for funding from the PCCs of the five parishes of Heveningham, Huntingfield, Cookley, Walpole and Cratfield with sums of £6,000.00 each to go towards the maintenance and upkeep of their churches. Each of the five parish councils received sums to meet their individual requests and in addition the Trustees were able to meet requests from Chediston Church, Laxfield Primary School, Walpole and Cookley Stepping Stones Pre-school and the Laxfield Benefice.

Once again it is due to the support of the public and the help of our team of volunteers that make these donations possible. Earlier in 2007 we were pleased to donate the sum of £10,000.00 to the Halesworth Community Care Nurses which enabled them to buy a piece of specialist equipment to help with the care of terminally ill patients in their own homes.

The Country Fair 2008 will be held on Sunday July 6th and the Fireworks event on Saturday November 1st. Enquiries to 01986-798151 or 01986-798362.
